After an intense search across Tagaytay for its best kept secret restaurants, we managed to pull up our sleeves again for another round of restaurant hunting, this time in the beautiful City of Pines and summer capital of the Philippines, Baguio City.

Amare La Cucina Restaurant – EGI Albergo Hotel

Amare La Cucina is an Italian restaurant famous for its traditional brick oven pizza and slow-cooked baby back ribs. Though it’s not in the heart of the city, a lot of people still visit the restaurant for the uniqueness and their traditional way of cooking its food. Try their Nutella pizza!

Eve’s Garden – Upper Lamtang Road

Eve’s Garden is a restaurant gem located 30 minutes away from Baguio City proper. It serves organic and healthy lunch meals which include a refreshing drink, soup, a colorful garden salad, main course, a dessert and coffee/tea. The place is only open from 11:30AM to 2:30pm and customers are kept to a minimum so reservations are required.

Vizco’s Restaurant & Cake Shop – Session Road

Being at the center of the city, Vizco’s has been a signature Baguio restaurant to visit. It’s a café famous for its cakes, particularly the Strawberry Shortcake, which are freshly made and affordable. Although it has a full menu which offers all meals of the day, it’s a good place for a quick stopover and have merienda as you tour the city of Baguio.

Foggy Mountain Cookhouse – St. Joseph St.

Foggy Mountain Cookhouse is a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and is as personal as it can get. Chef Babs opens his home porch to serve customers a private and specialized dinner based on what’s fresh for the day. Reservations and pre-orders at least day before are required. Check out the Firepit, scented with herbs, that’s used to warm guests during colder nights or roast marshmallows.

The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant – Tam-awan Village

The Farmer’s Daughter is a relatively new restaurant in a hut serving a small menu of organic Cordillera specialties including Pinikpikan (chicken stew), Kinuday (smoked pork meat), Pinuneg (blood sausage) Ube dessert and more. Little John’s Convenience Outpost – Camp John Hay

Little John’s is a small unassuming American diner at the Mile-Hi Center within Camp John Hay serving, as some would say, ‘the best baby back ribs in Baguio’. The fall-off-the-bone meat is tender and juicy and most importantly, affordable. Aside from the ribs, it also serves all-day breakfast, appetizers, fondue, pasta, other mains, and desserts.

Camping Date is a Korean restaurant offers a unique indoor camping dining experience. On top of this unique themed experience are their much talked about signatura Korean fried chicken and pizza selections available in various flavors. The Solibao Restaurant – Burnham Park

Solibao has been serving fine Filipino food since 1972, it actually has a number of branches in the city of Pines. Its diverse menu is extensive and includes traditional Filipino favorites, all-day breakfast, steaks, noodles, and bilao specials, among many other items. P.S. Their palabok, kare-kare and puto bumbong are 3 of the top reasons why many people visit them. If you’re curious to know, Solibao is an indigenous musical instrument.

La Comida de Antonio Ristorante is a Filipino-Spanish restaurant whose food will make it worth the 5-floor climb, literally. It is located atop the La Azotea Bldg and no, it has no elevator. Signature dishes include the Maria Kare (kare-kare), Rosa Maria (sinigang), and the Antonio (herbed chicken).

Cafe Sabel – BenCab Museum

Cafe Sabel is Bencab Museum’s in-house restaurant located 3 flights down of the museum. In case you didn’t know, Sabel is Bencab’s muse and the subject of many of his paintings; Sabel is also the homeless woman he used to see outside of his house. Cafe Sabel serves creations by Chef Mike Liwag prepared with fresh ingredients from their own farm.

Tsokolateria Artisanal Cafe – Upper Session Road

Tsokolateria is the newest cafe concept from the Happy Concept Group, who also owns Pamana, Hawaiian BBQ, Barrio Fiesta, etc. Its menu is all local and especially highlights one of Baguio’s specialties, chocolates. Tsokolateria is an al fresco cafe located atop the Igorot stairs, warm up with their tsokolate batirol in a private and breezy gazebo.

Ili-likha Artist Village is a whimsical and creative space for artists and foodies that showcases the Cordillera culture. Within it is the Kiwing na Kahoy Food Community where a few healthy food establishment resides, one of which is Balbacua at Urban Kamote, a farm to table all-day breakfast place specializing in Balbacua, a beef stew specialty from Southern Mindanao made of beef skin and meat slow cooked in herbs for 6 hours

Mama’s Table – Ambuklao Road

Mama’s Table is a private fine dining experience in Vicky Clemente’s secluded glass garden home. She serves a French-inspired 8-course meal (appetizer, soup, intermezzo #1, intermezzo #2, seafood course, meat course, digestive, dessert), there is no menu so be ready to be surprised. Mama’s Table only accepts one group at a time, with a minimum of 6 persons. Tip: Arrive before sunset to get a view of Vicky’s beautiful garden and the sunset viewing deck.
