Say ciao to authentic Italian taste. *Restaurant is permanently closed*

Italian eateries have become quite common in Manila and finding good, authentic pasta and pizza dishes may be a bit of a challenge because there’s already so much of it everywhere.

Of course there are already a few good places in our list and we are adding Lombardi’s to that growing list.

The restaurant, decked with wooden panels on its open kitchen and lit with industrial bulbs, creates a friendly and easy atmosphere among family and peers. Typical to Italian dining, tables are ready with a bottle or two of vino.

Like any good Italian restaurant, its authenticity depends on the ingredients. At Lombardi’s we can be sure to expect that the kitchen only uses the best and freshest—from vegetables to the flour used to make the dough of the pizza.

Their pasta dishes are made from scratch. Flavors are also strong. A crowd favorite is the Penne Panna Proscuitto Fungi in cream sauce. The Spaghetti Ai Frutti Di Mare comes in a close second. The medley of seafood—prawns, clams, mussels, and squid—adds a slight briny flavor to the dish. For the adventurous, a must-try is the Tagliolini Neri Al Salmone E’ Broccoli. The homemade black taglierini is mixed with smoked salmon and a little bit of broccoli.

Insider tip: Each pasta dish comes in a heaping portion good for two.

Their pizza is the talk of the town. The pizza crust is not too thin and not too thick, every pan is made fresh and only upon order. Classic flavors like the Quattro Formaggi (made with provolone, fontina, gorgonzola, and mozzarella) and Pizza Al Salumi (made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Italian ham, proscuitto, salame milano, and coppa) are available.

Seafood and vegetable options are also offered like the Gambaretti (made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, shrimp, and pesto) and the Vegetariana (made with tomato sauce, mozzarella, zucchini, eggplant, asparagus, and bell pepper).

Insider tip: Order half and half to get two flavors in one.

For mains, it is just but standard to offer ossobuco. Lombardi’s Rustic Ossobuco is served on a hot cast iron with a side of saffron risotto. Meat lovers should also order the Bistecca Con Salsa Di Crema Tartufata. The imported rib-eye steak is seared with cream truffle sauce. The poultry dishes, like the Chicken Cacciatore (brick-roasted chicken breast fillet topped with olive tapered and thick tomato sauce) and the Pollo Arrosto (oven-roasted chicken with red bell pepper sauce) are also worth a try.
