Butamaru – Ortigas Technopoint One

Butamaru is a Japanese restaurant that first opened its doors at Westgate Center in Filinvest, Alabang. Miso Happy – City Golf Plaza

Miso Happy is a hole-in-the-wall ramen joint in City Golf Plaza. Because it’s sandwiched between Uncle Moe’s Shawarma Hub and Frankie’s New York Buffalo Wings, it’s often unjustly under-looked. But take one step inside their shop and you’ll know you are in for a treat. The colorful ceiling, playful mural, and downright delicious ramen bowls will keep you coming back for more.

Mitsuyado Sei-Men is an international franchise brought here by the UCC Group. It’s widely known as “The House of Tsukemen” because they’re famous for their dipping noodles. The house specialty is not what you’d expect from a typical ramen shop, but one bite of their Double Cheese Tsukemen will convert you instantly.

If you’re craving yakitori…

Tori Ichi Yakitori and Bar – Ayala Malls The 30th

This restaurant from Kyoto specializes in kushiyaki or skewered and grilled food. One of their much-talked-about creations is the bacon-wrapped mochi but their best-seller and undisputed specialty is, of course, the yakitori. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and cooked over Japanese binchōtan (white charcoal) which gives the meat the right amount of smokiness. True to its roots in izakaya-style dining, they also offer different variants of sake and beer.

Tori Tori Kushiyaki Bar is all about embracing simplicity and authenticity. Both branches in San Juan and Pasig are humble hole-in-the wall joints that are focused on serving delicious and affordable yakitori and kushiyaki. If you can’t do without rice, you might as well indulge in their sinfully good Bacon Fried Rice!

Insider Tip: Be sure to ask about their promos! They give free salmon skin for every order of a bucket of beer.

If you love everything about Japanese cuisine…

Haru Sushi Bar & Restaurant – West Capitol Drive

The group behind Cafe Juanita proved they could do more than just Filipino food with Haru Sushi Bar & Restaurant. Look around and you’ll see that Haru maintains the same quirky design philosophy that made Cafe Juanita a household name. But it’s that same attention to service and quality which have made Haru one of the best and certainly one of the most recognizable Japanese restaurants in Kapitolyo.

Marufuku Japanese Restaurant – The Crescent Building

Marufuku is a must-try Japanese restaurant in Ortigas. Because of it’s off-the-beaten-path location at The Crescent Building, it has managed to fly under our radars. Those who have dined here rave about the restaurant’s best-selling, umami-filled starter— the Kaki Motoyaki, grilled  Hiroshima oysters with a mayonnaise and miso based sauce!

Minami Saki by Astoria – Astoria Plaza

The Ortigas Central Business District hides one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. With Chef Kimito Katagiri at the helm of Minami Saki’s kitchen, no one can doubt the authenticity and respect for Japanese tradition. But tradition doesn’t mean boring; in fact every bite is so well-executed that it leaves you fascinated and wanting more.
