It’s already a big hit in HK, Malaysia and Singapore. Is the Philippines next?

The food industry is quickly evolving with the developing tastes of diners worldwide.

Back then, a simple glazed doughnut or a freshly-baked croissant paired with coffee was the already the best breakfast pairing ever, until the croughnuts (croissant + doughnut). Cakes and milkshakes would have been considered a taboo and a call for diabetes, until someone invented the cake shakes. Gone are the days of the simple roasted marshmallow sandwiched between messy crackers and melted chocolate because in the modern times, we have s’mores macarons. Yes, these things actually exist.

Recently, another croissant craze has began to emerge, but it hasn’t yet reached our shores. The Salted Egg Croissant was started by Urban Bakery in Hong Kong. Urban Bakery specializes in various croissants but their flaky and oozing molten egg yolk custard croissant has definitely become the star of their menu. It is sold for HKD$22 (approx. PHP130).

Not long after, cafes in Malaysia (Le Bread Days, Seven Oaks Bakery Cafe) and, most recently, Singapore (Flavor Flings, Antoinette, Bridge, Kokomama Marketplace, Black & Ink) have come out with their own versions.

The croissant is known to be one of the most difficult pastries to bake, even for the experienced chef! Yet somehow, these people have managed to take the croissant game up a notch. News have reported some cafes being sold out of these coveted croissants in just 30 minutes after they release it in stores. It may only be a matter of time before this craze hits the shores of Manila, and we can’t say we’re not excited!

In the meantime, let’s just enjoy what’s currently available:
