Ramen

Several ramen shops have popped up over the last 5 years in Manila, and over hundreds of years around the world, and we say it takes a lot to stay resilient in an ever competitive food industry. That’s why when you hear a brand last for 60 years in the ramen market, you don’t think why, you just go ahead and try it!

We’re talking about Uma Uma Ramen, a ramen shop originating from Fukuoka, Japan and run by its president, Masahiko Teshima. Originally named ‘Wu Maru’ in 1953 by Teshima’s father, Teshima decided to give the business a fresh start by renaming it when he took over in 1994.

Uma Uma is an interplay between its previous name and a pun on the Japanese word that means tasty.

Uma Uma uses a well-loved, old family recipe that combines thin and non-curly noodles paired with their ‘robust and aromatic tonkotsu stock’, which will surely excite anyone’s taste buds. Aside from ramen, they are also popular for their donburi bowls and chicken karaage.

With the support of Russel Yu and Ignatius Chan of Iki Concepts group, Uma Uma was able to open and fully operate in Singapore. The group also handles brands such as Kaiseki Yoshiyoku and Horse’s Mouth.

Check out all the exciting bowls and side dishes you can try when they finally open!

Watch out for seasonal offerings like their popular Truffle Ramen and new menu releases; they’re also known to offer promos such as buy 1 take 1 ramen and dining for a purpose.

You can add all the extra toppings that you want (double the satisfaction for a minimal price!), that includes: tamago, chashiu, spring onion, leeks, black fungus, bamboo shoot and even extra noodles!

Uma Uma doesn't use MSG to make sure they are able to keep the umami taste from the fresh ingredients they cook with.

This Japanese specialty surely hasn’t and will not die, because no 2 original recipe bowls are ever the same. And it’s always refreshing to the palate to discover new kinds of soups and flavors in one bowl from different ramen specialists.
