Skip the magic stone and head straight to the gym!

With one of the country’s highly coveted (and seemingly elusive) big screen roles, Darna, finally finding a home with relative newcomer Jane de Leon, Booky figured that now would be the best time to get started on your own superheroine journey and start working out like Darna for that superwoman look.

From Angel Losin to Liza Soberano to Jane de Leon and now to you, it’s time to prove that any Filipina can be Darna and be real-life a superhero!

Since it was just revealed that Jane de Leon landed the role last week, her exact superhero regimen isn’t set in stone yet, but early interviews indicate that she plans on doing Muay Thai, functional fitness training, and even putting on a few pounds of muscle for the role.

Aside from these workouts, Jane also has a history of dance, which is sure to have kept her fit and active throughout the years.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a great choice if you want to train to look, act, and feel like an action hero. It’s a combat sport similar to boxing in that it focuses on striking, but unlike boxing Muay Thai uses your fists, feet, elbows, and knees. So it won’t just look like you can beat up bad guys- you actually can!

When it comes to Muay Thai, you’ve got a lot of options as most places that offer boxing lessons will most likely also have Muay Thai classes. Regardless of where you workout, it’s important to find an experienced Muay Thai coach who can not only teach you the basics, but also guide you to the fitness level that you want to achieve.

Functional Fitness

When it comes to strength training, “functional fitness” can mean a lot of things. You have classic weight lifting programs, circuit training and CrossFit studios, and even yoga classes- any single one of these workout methods will help you become stronger, leaner, and more in control of your body.

Our guess is that to achieve that strong and slender look that Darna is known for, Jane will focus more on bodyweight than heavy weights- and you should, too! This probably means a lot of planks, burpees, and overall circuit training that builds on strength and conditioning without getting too bulky.

But you shouldn’t cut out lifting weights from your workouts entirely! You should still be lifting but at a lighter weight and higher reps.

Dance

Finally, dance practice is a great exercise to round out your Darna superhero super-workouts. Though it may seem out of place for an action-heavy look, dancing offers a lot of underappreciated benefits.

Aside from keeping you light on your feet and teaching you how to have expert body control and graceful movement, dancing is also just plain fun. It’s a great way to recharge and shake off all the fatigue from all the strenuous and difficult Muay Thai and strength and condition training that this Darna-based workout will have you doing.

From Zumba classes to pole dancing and even aerobic sessions that suspend you in the air, there isn’t one single, best dance class- so it’s important to look for the one that allows you to be loose, comfortable, and relaxed. Take your time and find the class that’s best for you!
