Youz on fi-yah!

We decided over at Booky that it’s high time to go beyond food and give you more. There’s so much to do and discover and we’re opening up Metro Manila to help you find your flavor starting with fitness and beauty. The new and improved Booky is stronger and cuter than ever.

Yoga is perhaps one of the most popular recreational activities here in the Metro and it’s easy to understand why: the stress brought on by heavy traffic and a long commute, the pressure from work, the hiking prices of basic needs, and the heat that feels like the city is in flames. But why evade the heat when you can use it to escape your problems?

Bikram Yoga Manila (BYM) is the very first heated yoga studio in the country. They keep the temperature at 40°C—something a bit daunting especially when it feels almost as warm as a Manila summer day—but trust, it’s exactly what you need to clear your mind and loosen the tension in your muscles.

The studio is set on the 15th floor of Corporate Center in Makati, Bikram Yoga’s Studio is no frills: wooden floors, white walls, a floor-to-ceiling window on one side, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors on another. Their studio can fit 50 people comfortably, and it does fill up, so make sure to enlist in advance.

Did you know? They also have a branch at the CKB Center in Tomas Morato!

Bikram Yoga is a type of Yoga that was developed by Bikram Choudhury, which he synthesized from Hatha yoga, a style of yoga that is gentle and informative on the basic postures. It features a series of 26 postures that flow into each other and is done in a heated room. The class is divided in three 30-minute segments for warm-up, cardio, and floor work.

The heat is important. It loosens the muscles and makes transitioning from one pose to another easy as pie. It also helps yogis lose weight and breathe deeper.

Aside from Bikram Yoga, they also have Yin Yoga classes, which is slow-paced and focuses on holding poses.

BYM’s classes are taught by 7 instructors that are all certified. They offer 4 classes a day on weekdays, 3 on Saturdays, and 2 on Sundays, and each class is a 90-minute session. They advise that first-timers (and everyone else who want to practice Bikram Yoga), come in with near-empty bellies so they won’t feel heavy during the exercise.

Never been to a yoga class? No worries ’cause Bikram Yoga is noob-friendly! Plus, they have a first-timer package at P2,300 for 2 weeks of unlimited sessions.

If you need more reasons to get convinced, yoga is actually proven to lower blood pressure, increase muscle strength and tone, and well, exercising in general makes you happier. So why not get your endorphin fix and become sexy at the same time?
