Ride or die

We decided that it’s high time to go beyond food and give you more. There’s so much to do and discover and we’re opening up Metro Manila to help you find your flavor— starting with fitness and beauty. The new and improved Booky is stronger and cuter than ever.

We’ll never forget the day Ariana Grande dropped the music video for her hit single, Side to Side. (August 29, 2016— in case you were wondering).

Prior to this, indoor cycling was a workout trend that was hot in the early nineties but eventually fizzled out for reasons unknown… but what we do know is that Miss Grande’s iconic video paved the way for a spinning renaissance and it wasn’t long before Metro Manila caught on.

Unlike a gym which caters to many different types of exercisers, indoor cycling studios seem to attract a very specific, specialized, and passionate segment of fitness enthusiasts. This led to a common misconception that spinning isn’t for everyone. One of the first local studios that attempted to change this perception was Ride Revolution.

While it’s true that Ride Rev attracts affluent clientele (BJ Pascual, Rajo Laurel, and Kathryn Bernardo are regulars), you don’t have to be a celebrity to be able to experience their revolutionary workout. It can be intimidating for a first-timer, but if you’re curious and willing to give it a shot, this is all you really need to know:

They offer a pay-as-you-train model

No contracts, no commitments. Booking a ride can be done in three easy steps:

  1. Create an account.
  2. Buy your credits. One credit equals one class. Buy them one at a time or in packages.
  3. Book a bike online. You can select a class by studio or by instructor

Being skinny or fit is not a prerequisite

Come as you are. Unless you’re expecting or recovering from an injury, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give Ride Revolution a chance. Plain and simple, it’s open to anyone who wants to live their best life.

You’re going to sweat… a lot

While the passionate and charismatic instructors make it look easy, what you’re actually doing is a high intensity, full body workout. It’s designed to strengthen the body’s core, tone muscles and burn maximum calories so it’s important to hydrate before, during, and after the ride. Face towels are provided but we recommend bringing extra. Like it or not, you’ll be drenched in sweat so it’s better to come prepared!

Insider Tip: If you're pasmado, wearing a pair of cycling gloves will also give you a better grip of the handlebars

It won’t result in thunder thighs

Worried about overdeveloped thigh muscles? Cleated shoes increase the connection between bike and leg, engaging the hamstrings and glute muscles and resulting in toned, lean legs. Talk about efficient! Like we said before, it’s a full body workout— in every class, light hand weights are used to target the upper body. Some instructors will even integrate core workouts like crunches and modified twists.

Be ready to be showered with words of affirmation

Strength isn’t the only thing you’ll gain from training at Ride Rev. Because the instructors are there to motivate you, push you to your limits, and remind you why you’re doing this, you’ll learn to build your focus and self-confidence. You’ll start to look in the mirror and see that you are your biggest and only competition.

There’s also something to be said about suffering loudly in a darkened room full of fellow riders. Perhaps the sense of community that comes from sharing an experience like this is the real reason people keep coming back for more.

The music will help you power through

It’s a challenging 50-minute journey but having a unique soundtrack is key to making it through. Every class is set to a specific and personalized playlist, created by the instructors who know that the right song has the power to engage you emotionally and inspire you physically. (We dare you to give up while Toxic by Britney Spears is blasting on the speakers. Impossible.) Allow the music to guide you and push your body out of its comfort zone.
