Saying you’ll commit to something is easy, but staying true to your word can be challenging, especially when there’s so much you need to sacrifice. But improving your health and fitness doesn’t have to be so daunting. Sometimes, you really just have to take a couple baby steps in order to get yourself ready.

1. Choose to walk

If the distance isn’t too far and there’s enough space on the sidewalk, opt to walk instead of riding a trike or jeep. Walking helps you maintain a healthy weight and prevents illnesses such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Aside from that, you get in your daily exercise and become more familiar with your surroundings.

2. Take the stairs

Similar to the reasons stated on the previous point, taking stairs helps you get fitter. Climbing stairs improves muscle tone and prevents high blood pressure and chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and vascular dementia.

3. Swap chips and sweets with fruits and healthier options

Fruits and veggies are versatile foods, so there’s so many things you can do with them. You can eat them as they are or with a spread,  juice or make smoothies out of them, and make popsicles. If chips is really your guilty pleasure, you can always make your own at home with healthier ingredients like sweet potatoes, zucchini, and kale.

4. Cook at home instead of getting takeout

Take adulting to the next level and learn to make your own meals. Not only does this save you so much money, but you also learn a valuable skill and know all the ingredients used. With you in charge, you get to control your portions and seasonings, just make sure you don’t overdo it!

5. Drink better liquids

High sugar intake is linked to an increased risk for heart disease and weight gain. Switch out sweet drinks with infused water and unsweetened tea and coffee. If you must fulfill a sugar craving, turn to fruits. Natural fruit juices contain fiber and antioxidants which is good for you.

6. Practice proper posture

Good posture is so important because the simple act of slouching can put so much stress on your spine. And if you do strenuous activities with a bad posture, you might just end up with injuries or a deformed spine. Use apps like Lumo Back or Posture to remind you to straighten your back.

7. Start small when establishing a fitness routine

Instead of blowing a ton of money on a gym membership, train yourself to stick to a small exercise routine at home first. Skip rope for a couple minutes daily or buy small equipment such as dumbbells or resistance bands for your at-home workout. Over time, you build discipline needed to commit to a gym membership without wasting money.

8. Do chores

Form a habit of cleaning up more often and more thoroughly. If you blast some sick tunes while working, it won’t feel like such a chore. Discipline is important when you want to be fully committed to your fitness routine one day, so why not start now?

9. Stand up and stretch periodically when working

Sitting too long is bad for you because it increases the chances of gaining weight and developing diseases like cancer, diabetes, and stroke. Most offices aren’t equipped with ergonomic and adjustable tables and chairs, so take care of yourself by standing up to stretch every 30 minutes.

10. Take a breather

Remove all distractions and do belly breathing by inhaling deeply through your nose, holding it for three counts, and exhaling through the mouth. Slow breathing eases tension and stress and helps with relaxation.

If these little things aren’t enough to make you feel fit and healthy, go ahead and take it up a notch with these Booky offers!
