School is cool

Whether you are currently a student or a long-time alumnus of any school along Katipunan Avenue, you’re likely all too familiar with the fast-paced turnover of restaurants which line the seemingly-endless stretch of asphalt. The same goes for neighboring street Esteban Abada which has seen a number of establishments come and go over the years (rest in peace, Wok Dis Way).

But in spite of the rapid boom of commercial businesses and high-rise condominiums (which seems to have crippled many small businesses) one steadfast bastion continues to thrive – the Center for Culinary Arts. The CCA compound, which occupies a huge lot between Katipunan and Abada, also houses its restaurant chain, Cravings and a cafe called The Coffee Beanery.

Also: If you can remember the time when CCA was home to The Rooftop, congratulations -- you are entitled to a senior citizen card.

The secret to CCA’s longevity is their tenacity and inventiveness. They are constantly creating new spaces to respond to the demands and needs of the students who populate the area. They did it before; with The Rooftop, when the call was for an al fresco drinking spot. With their latest addition, we think they’ve done it again.

Because Katipunan is so densely populated by students, it has almost become compulsory for restaurants to double-up as a place to work for students and young professionals alike. The Lib is CCA’s answer to that growing demand.

Fun Fact: Where The Lib stands today is where the CCA Library was once located, hence its name.

Since March of this year, the café-cum-workspace has been providing its patrons with delicious meals and a quiet place to work. It answers all the needs of a typical college student (a place to work, learn, and meet) and goes above and beyond those demands by also offering food and specialty coffee.

Best of all, it’s affordable. You can get a filling set meal which includes a rice bowl, an ice cold drink, and a dessert bar for less than P300! Despite the budget-friendly prices, you can be sure of quality — after all they are located within the Center for Culinary Arts!

Insider Tip: Love the space? The Lib is ready to accommodate events, big or small, from meetings and seminars, to baby showers, baptisms, and even birthday parties! Just give them a call.
