Main Street is a Canadian-inspired restaurant specializing in Pacific Northwest cuisine. It’s for diners looking for some good comfort food, especially for the weekend. It’s not for people who are strict with their diet. We recommend their famous Poutine, the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Pork Chop. Our insider tip: Get 20% off on all cocktails every Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 10pm.

9. Naan – Kapitolyo

New entry

Photo from Booky

Naan serves up Fil-Indian fares so the flavors aren’t completely unfamiliar and the dishes are still recognizable to those who have never had Indian food before. It’s a colorful space inspired by street dining in India. A mix of bright high and low wooden tables, art on the walls, and a playlist of Indian tunes in the background, Naan could have been plucked out of the streets of Mumbai.  It’s for people who love Indian cuisine. It’s not for people who are craving for noodle dishes. We recommend the Mumbai Fries, Deep Fried Dynamite, Vegetable Samosa, Falafel & Hummus Naan Roll and Grilled Chicken Tikka Masala Thali. Our insider tip: their Deep Fried Dynamite goes amazingly well with the tamarind sauce. Don’t be shy and ask for some! 8. Locavore Kitchen + Drinks – Brixton St.

Last month’s #7

Photo from @deinielcuvin

True to its name, Locavore serves only locally grown and produced Filipino dishes with a French touch from Chef Mikel Zaguirre (of Taqueria 101 and newly opened Carnivalé). The open kitchen and industrial interiors adds to the modern hipster vibe of the restaurant. It’s for people who enjoy a twist to the classics. It’s not for an intimate occasion. We recommend the Sizzling Sinigang (ask for extra gravy!), Lechon & Oyster Sisig, and its underrated Ginataang Kalabasa. For rice lovers, it’s good to know they also serve brown rice. Our insider tip: you can get a free dessert once you accomplish a feedback form to the restaurant using your Booky.

Nikuya is a local concept that’s first to offer Korean grill with Japanese hotpot in one place. Nikuya, along with new restaurants like Kko KkoButa+Wagyu, etc.  is owned by TV personality and host, Grace Lee. It’s for foodies who love both Japanese and Korean cuisines. It’s not for people looking for sushi and other Japanese specialties. We recommend the Korean BBQ samgyupsal and karubi (boneless short rib), as well as their value-for-money shabu shabu set good for 2-3 persons. Insider tip: Nikuya, which means “butcher” in Japanese, houses a mini-butchery that offers a selection of high-caliber wagyu beef from Buta+Wagyu. Hailing all the way from Boston, Emack & Bolio’s is a popular chain of ice cream stores that was founded by Robert Rook back in 1975.So what makes Emack & Bolio’s unique? Their ice cream and yogurt are made from live culture and non-fat milk. They are against using milk from cows injected with genetically-induced hormone bST, which is what other brands use to help their cows produce more milk. It’s for die hard ice cream fanatics. It’s not for people who are looking for simple ice cream flavors. We recommend their Stoney’s Dream, Space Cake, Deep Purple Chip, and Serious Chocolate Addiction. Our insider tip is to try their smoothies! Kko Kko is a modern Korean chicken house that uses traditional and contemporary recipes that came from Grace Lee and her mom. Their menu is divided into three main categories – Korean Fried Chicken, Korean Street Food, and Dosirak (Korean lunch box) – each narrating a story about the dining setting and customs of Korea. It’s for foodies looking for new and unique Korean dishes. It’s not for people looking for grilled Korean BBQ. We recommend the Chicken Cheese Fondue, Snow Chicken Cheese, and Galbi Jim Dosirak. Our insider tip is the place is quite small and may get full quickly on peak hours, so make sure to book a table ahead of time. Fun Fact:  Kko Kko was named after the sound that a chicken makes.
