From Kyoto to Manila, Tori Ichi is an underrated Japanese franchise specializing in yakitori grilled on binchotan (Japanese charcoal).
Fun fact: "Yaki" means grilling, "tori" means chicken.
There are over 30 different kinds of yakitori on their menu, which includes grilled and seasoned chicken, beef, pork, vegetables and offals.
Tori Ichi first opened in BGC in December of 2015 simply serving yakitori, a few donburi and alcohol pairing. Unlike the Philippine brick and mortar shops, Tori Ichi Japan are mere small izakaya street bars that only serves yakitori and beer pairings.
Today, Tori Ichi Philippines is four branches strong (BGC, Alabang, Mall of Asia and Ayala Malls the 30th) and has an expanded menu that includes ramen, sushi rolls, tempura, a la carte dishes and more.
We visited Tori Ichi Mall of Asia branch, which is the largest of them all. It can be accessed through the bay side area entrance or the new North Wing.
Be ready to be transported to new town Japan with its beautiful wood interiors and wall accents. You can even pick one of the limited booths for a more private and romantic spot.

Aside from the interiors and ambiance, it’s really the food that makes its loyal patrons coming back for more.
